Admire the fine views of Ben Lomond from three different levels of decks on the Maid of the Loch historic steamship.

Learn from displays about how the Maid was transported in parts from Glasgow and assembled on the slipway before entering service. Read about our plans for getting the Maid sailing again and for developing the pier.

Nestled in the heart of the ship is the engine room. See the giant cranks and pistons used to power the enormous paddle wheels.

Explore the other accommodation on the ship. Function rooms may be hired for private functions and events.

For those of you who are keen walkers why not try the Three Lochs Way Route which starts at Balloch? More information on this can be found at

Another wonderful trail is The John Muir Way. It stretches 134 miles running between Helensburgh in the west through to Dunbar on the east coast. It’s not for the faint hearted as it will take you 9-11 days to walk and about half that by bike. If you would like information just click on the link;

Steam Slipway

The Balloch Steam Slipway is a 1902 heritage attraction, rebuilt in 2006 with the help of the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The Winch House with it’s operational steam boiler will be open every weekend from 1st June until 29th September 2019. See the steam engine and gearing system in operation; try the interactive displays; or watch the audio visuals describe how the slipway pulls the Maid out of the water.

The steam is usually up to pressure by 12 noon.

Or blow our steam whistle!
