Loch Lomond’s - PS Maid of the Loch

Loch Lomond Steamship Company, better known as Paddle Steamer Maid of the Loch, is a Scottish Charity run entirely by volunteers. We are determined to return our historic ship to sailing again on Loch Lomond. The ship was saved from sinking in 1995 and since then our community of volunteers has spent thousands of hours bringing her back to life. The ship is presently on the Slipway and undergoing major restoration works to her hull and paddles but we are keen to welcome visitors to the shipyard so they can see for themselves the amazing work underway.

UPDATE September 2026.

Currently work is underway to aquablast the decks and hull back to bare metal prior to covering with high quality marine coatings, some of which is sponsored by Jotun. The paddle blades have all been renewed and being refitted, painstaking process which involves manually moving the paddle wheel so blades can be applied in a balanced order. Prepping and painting of all woodwork and other surfaces is a never ending task so it continues! The hull under the boiler room has been completely renewed and that task is almost complete. Areas further aft in the ship have shown some further corroded areas which will also need repair.

The slipway rails and ballast underwater have been eroded over the years by wave action but we have managed to raise funds for the replacement of a large quantity of log dogs to stabilise sleepers. That work is complete and with further funding we aim to infill the required ballast to maintain integrity of the slipway rails - all vital work before we can relaunch the ship and take her back to moor at the pier.

Book a Hard Hat Tour

Every Saturday and Sunday from 2 May 2026 until 27 September at 12 noon and 2pm, our friendly knowledgeable guides will be happy to show you the ship. Tours last about an hour. Get an exclusive update onboard and on the slipway of the most recent work in our restoration programme. You need to be able to climb our access staircase to get onboard the ship. Wear comfortable shoes. Tours are not recommended for children under 5 and are not suitable for dogs. Tours cost £10 per adult and £5 for children 5-15 years.
